Nike installs Kinect powered interactive window displays
Nike, like many others, has gotten creative with their window displays by adding Kinect-powered interactivity for fun movement in their displays, attracting the average passerby. Advertising Nike's Flyknit Racer, Nike+ Fuelband, Lunarglide, Reflective Sportswear and the new Pinnacle clothing line, Dutch creative agency ...,staat designed and built various interactive window displays for the company's London store, using Kinect to track people passing by, matching the pace, height, and other interesting features of passerby. Not only are all of the displays interactive, highlighting strengths of each collection, several interact socially, for example, a window display where people outside of the store jump as high as they can, emulating a basketball dunk, and results are ranked in the public gallery which is also viewable online. Interactivity fueled by Kinect is popping up in window displays across the world, and while not always as playful as Nike's window displays, many are eye catching. From dummies that move to follow a passerby to a simple change in monitor display as someone passes. Retail and office spaces alike with prominent windows accessible by passerby are using the opportunity to attract and connect with consumers creatively and with the advent of Kinect, the most expensive part of the display is its design, not typically its implementation.

Take Pride Window Display
This window display entitled "Take Pride" was created in anticipation of the annual "PRIDE" parade and to visually represent our commitment to celebrating diversity within the college community and the world at large. We were thrilled to feature a student model, Kayla Bustard, Fashion Arts Diploma program and Eden, Elmer Olsen Model Management within the window imagery. A series of same sex mannequins are sporting trendy black and white graphic looks with pops of the famous rainbow PRIDE flag colours to accessorize their outfits. A black and white checkered abstract environment was created by stapling paper squares to large sheets of foam core panels creating visual interest by using repetition and contrast as our primary attention getting devices. Managing the movement of fourteen mannequins in a confined space was the biggest challenge we faced creating this display. Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person!) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring luxury Knightsbridge department store Harrods with its Christmas lights, as well as its Christmas window display designed by Dolce & Gabbana. The tour features the exterior of the store, window display, and surrounding area. Sights seen along the tour include the Harrods Christmas lights with illuminated exterior, Dolce & Gabbana designed Christmas window display featuring a number of magnificent themes including a neon disco, a wall of clocks, a traditional funfair, Santa by an ornate fireplace, astronauts and aliens - all containing animated puppets of people, cats, dogs, and of course, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, and finally, a large decorated Christmas tree outside the store. Holt Renfrew: Animated Christmas Window Display 2014 [DEMO]
Building on last year’s successful Northern Noël window display at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre, luxury retailer Holt Renfrew called upon Moment Factory to animate their store in November and December, in collaboration with digital signage supplier Gridcast. Inspired by the romance of the holidays, this year’s video - Northern Lights - has a strong focus on high-end fashion and glamour. In an 8-minute long continuous loop, a magical narrative unfolds beginning with a display of colourful northern lights, shifting landscapes of drifting snow, crystal pendants and gems, vintage fashion illustrations, amongst other wintery scenes. The installation features two LCD panels on either side of the store entrance, posing a challenge to create content as if it were all on one continuous screen. http://WindowsWear.com conducted a search around the world for this year's best holiday fashion windows. It took 33 combined hours for our photographers in New York, Milan, London, Barcelona, Paris and Los Angeles to cover their cities by foot, subway, motorbike and car. 60 miles were covered over the course of 3 days, with over 2,000 different windows photographed. Esher Fashion Week 2012 at Brooklands College
Groups of fashion students from Brooklands College worked hard with Esher clothes shops to produce dazzling window displays as part of Esher Fashion Week. Students on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fashion & Clothing or Art and Design Fashion pathway met with owners and staff from the shops involved to receive their brief on the type of show window display they wanted to feature before fashion week. The groups , made up of four or five students, then returned to the college with their materials budget of £50 to pull together their creative ideas to bring the project to life. Lisa Mullin who teaches the students on the fashion courses said "This has been a wonderful real-life fashion project for the girls who have all worked hard to bring their creative ideas to life. I am also grateful to the Esher fashion shops who have spent their time with the students to get the window merchandising display brief spot on. I was also impressed with the students' professional approach in meeting all the targets set and the wonderful window display they have helped to produce." All the students received participation certificates for their hard work, with the O'Keefe team received winners' certificates and goodie-bags. The teams were as follows: Club- The Club team agreed on a visual merchandising display linked to "Queen Victoria" aka Victoria Beckham's fashion influence. Some of the elements they incorporated included a chunky rope painted gold and sold beading to reflect the fashion 'royalty' influence. The colour theme was again regal with purple faux petals and gold. Lily and Bow- The second group worked with 'Lily and Bow', another boutique in Esher High Street that also incorporates a small coffee shop. The inspirational theme for this group of fashion students was 'Autumn/Winter' ; incorporating an autumnal backdrop. They also used some pale coloured chiffon fabric to bring 'winter light' to the merchandising display in the boutique. O'Keefe- The group described 'O'Keefe' as a shop full of sophisticated clothes suitable for women of all ages, with a luxurious edge. The style approach they agreed on with the owners was based on the the fashion eras of the 1920s and 1950. Some of their inspirational ideas can be seen in the books and magazines they perused for ideas. The colour theme was also important to them and reflects a luxurious approach, with emerald green, golds, blacks and browns; all rich colours. The girls also visited charity shops to see if there were examples of older fashion piece and props or books featuring designs from their chosen fashion eras. Rock and Robes- The name of the fourth fashion shop involved in Esher Fashion week certainly helped the final group of students come up with their design ideas for the shop window merchandising display, which they called 'Autumn Rocks'. One very noticeable element of the display is a number of elaborately coloured and in some cases, mirrored skulls, which reflected patterns found in the shop. After much discussion of ideas put forward by the students, they focused on a sun and moon theme where the windows could reflect the night-and-day design of the featured clothing display and the decorative theming. Watch this video and don't avoid the temptation to hop a plane to Paris for the holidays. I promise...you won't be disappointed...Paris and London are my two favorite places for Christmas. The lights and window displays are stunning!!!! The French and English know how to do almost everything really well and Christmas decorations are no exception. However, I will say that the French are far more creative and out of the box thinkers when it comes to high fashion and design creativity. No offense Brits. A dynamic shop window elevates one of Milan’s high end fashion stores Eral 55. On weekdays, dynamic lighting resulted in an 11% increase in people stopping at the shop windows compared to static lighting - demonstrating that dynamic lighting settings can differentiate stores and attract more customers. Moreover, Eral 55 noted that significantly more people entered their store. Especially during weekdays and in the afternoon - a time of low foot traffic on the street - the application of dynamic lighting settings resulted in a significantly higher footfall (number of people entering the store) compared to static light settings.
